Kipper and his friends discover a ruined castle while out exploring. The magic key glows and takes them back in time to when the castle was still standing. There, they meet a friendly giant who helps them and shows them around. When the children return home, Kipper finds a surprising clue that the giant might be real after all!
In this story, the children find an old map and go on a magical adventure through the magic key. The key glows and transports them to a mysterious place where they hear about a grumpy giant who is said to be scary and unkind. As they explore, they meet people who are afraid of the giant. However, Kipper, being curious and brave, decides to find out the truth for himself. Eventually, the children meet the giant — and to their surprise, he turns out to be kind and friendly, not scary at all. The giant was misunderstood, and he’s happy to have visitors.
Typically aimed at children aged 5–6 years (Key Stage 1 / Year 1 in the UK curriculum). Appropriate for early readers who are developing their decoding and comprehension skills. Oxford Reading Tree Stage 5. Children at this level can read simple sentences with increased confidence. They are building fluency and beginning to recognize a wider range of high-frequency and tricky words.
