Shahab Nama is the autobiography of Qudrat Ullah Shahab, a distinguished Pakistani civil servant, writer, and diplomat. The book provides a fascinating and insightful look at Pakistan’s political, social, and spiritual history, spanning from the British colonial era to the early decades of Pakistan’s independence. Shahab writes with honesty, humor, and reflection about his personal life, bureaucratic experiences, and encounters with prominent leaders such as Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah, Liaquat Ali Khan, and Ayub Khan. In the latter part of the book, Shahab touches upon mystical and spiritual experiences, which give Shahab Nama a deeply philosophical and Sufi tone. It is regarded as one of the most important autobiographies in Urdu literature, admired for its literary style, truthfulness, and depth of insight into Pakistan’s formation and governance.
