“Sarkash Roohain” (Spirits Rebellious) is a collection of four symbolic stories that reveal Gibran’s critique of social injustice, religious hypocrisy, and oppression in Middle Eastern society at the time. It marked Gibran’s shift from pure romantic mysticism to moral rebellion — challenging traditions that enslaved the soul, especially concerning women, freedom, love, and faith. Because of its bold ideas, the book was banned in Lebanon by religious authorities when it was first published.
