Summary, Abstract, Review | Robinson Crusoe by Daniel Defoe is a classic adventure novel that tells the story of Robinson Crusoe, an Englishman who becomes stranded on a deserted island for 28 years. The novel begins with Crusoe’s rebellious decision to leave his comfortable life in England and go to sea. After several voyages, Crusoe is shipwrecked on an isolated tropical island. With no other survivors, Crusoe must learn to fend for himself. Using his resourcefulness, he builds a shelter, grows crops, and tames animals. Over time, Crusoe keeps a journal of his experiences, which includes his evolving relationship with God as he reflects on his isolation and survival. After many years, Crusoe discovers that he is not alone on the island when he encounters cannibals. He rescues one of their captives, naming him Friday, and the two develop a close friendship. With Friday’s help, Crusoe gains a renewed sense of hope and eventually finds a way to return to civilization. Robinson Crusoe is a tale of survival, self-reliance, and spiritual awakening. It explores themes of isolation, human ingenuity, and the conflict between civilization and nature, making it one of the most influential adventure stories in English literature. |
